Hick's correct. It's called "Air Layering" and is a very common Bonsai technique. I'd actually recommend Bonsai as a hobby to anyone in the grow biz as you'll learn quite a bit about growing, have some fun with some different plants and not to mention it's a good excuse for all those tools...

Hick had a pretty comprehensive guide above. The only things that i would do differently are to use 100% vermiculite. add it to a bowl with a little water in the bottom and microwave on high for about a minute. this will sterilize the rooting medium and you'll have less of a chance of fungus...
