Hello all,
I just wanted to give my opinion online poker. Not any other form of online gambling like sportsbetting, horse races blackjack/casino games. Im just talking about good old fashion pastime poker. Well if you havent heard online poker is illegal in the states. What happened is they slipped the bill into a larger bill that had to be passed, it was like a homeland security bill. There are a few poker companies still open for the US. Now the points of the government makes on why they ban online poker. Is because people are going into debt, kid underage are playing on there parents account, lots of college kids are not going to school and playing poker and going into debt and taxes. Plus some other minor issues, but those are there main points they made during a hearing discussing the issue.
Now giving those points above one would think yeah that is bad and there should be something done about it. Then I think there are legal vices out there that could cause you to go into debt directly and indirectly, investing/trading stocks, online/binge shopping, alcohol probably more than that Im just not thinking of. Now the point I am trying to make here, is people are going to do what they want if they want. So does that mean anything that you enjoy that could possibly hurt you financially should be banned?
Now I dont think that kids shouldnt be able to play on there parents account, which I mean any parent with a decent handle on there kid should know what going on in there household. But now there is so much technology out there that there are ways to be able to recognize who the user is. What the technology is I dont know, but I do know that big companies are using them the identify there customers. The poker companies are ready to implement this in their companies. Now about taxes they have found a method to tax everybody on there winnings.
Now as I said above I love poker, and growing lol. I know personally its a game of skill, many of the same players consistently make money in poker. Some people the way they play do not treat it as a game of skill rather than a luck game, slot machines/bingo in other word no skill. Now if they dont have the will power to stop if they have a problem, anyone that is in a situation where they dont have the will power to stop is going to have problems. Im all for regulation of it, and the steps they need to take to prevent under age gambling. Its not fair to me, my hobby and sometimes my money maker has to be taken away because the government comes up with these stories of people lives being ruined cause of online poker, like I said there are a lot of legal things out there that have just as much negative consequences as online poker. Poker is apart of our history and it needs to continue to be.
