This is mainly to help Thorn out but im quite sure a lot of people will be interested ;)

I have noticed for a long while the comments associated with security on the forum so here is something to help people out who have no security, totally free, just how I like it :)

AVG is a worldwide used home and professional Anti Virus scanner, many of you would have heard of it or already have it installed.

Free to download and use with limited access to all functions unless you pay £40 for full access.

Heres the plan ;)

Download the FREE AVG from here.

hXXp://free.avg.com/

(Change XX to TT)

Download the FREE AVG

Did I mention that you download the FREE AVG?

When downloaded and installed, start the AVG and click 'Overview'.

Click 'License'. (Picture 1)

A new window will open (Picture 2)

Put this number into the box 8MEH-REDSL-7ETEC-ULA8R-EAOKL-4EMBR-ACED

(I suggest you cut and paste it)

Then click 'Activate'.

You now have the full working professional AVG for free

The key number you put in will last you about 6 months, I will return with another activation code at the end of June 2009 :)

P.s. If you already have the free AVG, simply paste the full activation code in and you then have the full version :)

Every problem has a solution, never forget it ;)

:peace:

edit:says new license is valid until Sunday Feb,25th 2018 hahaha

also check with your ISP, they may offer free security as well, I know Comcast and AT&T both offer free security with a monthly subscription

nice find.
not having much luck though.. is this for avg free 8.0?
i'm not getting any popup where you input the serial number (i just have the screen you have under the popup in pic 2.. license number and license type. with an option to buy or register below. but no where i can change the serial)

i've been running free avg on my pc for 5 years now. i've not had one problem. i also run advanced windows care 3.0 which is also free. set your avg to scan pc daily, (while you sleep). i usually run the adv windows care when i log off for the day. i reccomend both of these programs highly.
if you open something that has a virus attached, the avg picks it up automatically. a window appears saying, 'warning, virus detected. would you like to remove it to the virus vault now?'.
thanks HIE...bb...

I use Avast. its free catches everything so far. had probs with AVG and some torrents. So I'll stick with Avast. it updates auto every few hours and i don't get bugs. Has P2P sheild email online scanner and is pretty good. did i mention its free ;)

I use PC Cillin, Have for 10 years.. Its tha bomb.

I've removed 100's of viruses from machines with AVG installed. It doesn't rate as far as I'm concerned. Kaspersky does a pretty good job.

i basicly use AVG to find the path of the virus and remove it manually...on the other hand, AVG has caught many many worms and trojans attempting to plant themselves in my PC.(porn kills)..as for adware, i loooove ADAWARE SE/2007 ..cleans my PC and speeds it up when things start to slow. i am systems tweaker and have to have the fastest pc available so i'm always testing different software..will be happy to answer any questions you may have

I love CCleaner too. It's free. It just cleans your system (cookies etc.) no virus or spyware but one push of a button and start from scratch!;) Very descent program. I've used it for years. And if it's not for you, it uninstalls clean too.

yeah CCleaner Is good to use, I guess it comes down to user preferance

guys.... CCleaner is pretty much the worst registry program I have ever found. Yeah, I used to think it was the greatest... until I started reading more about it... faulty registry deletions, no blocks against WINDOWS registry deletions like in other more respectable registry cleaners

i use jv16 which is the best reg cleaner IMO

AVG is only decent catching worms and well-known virus. It's TERRIBLE catching trojans and lesser-known virus.

I repeat TERRIBLE!

I swore by it for almost a year and never had a problem and then one day my computer just slowed to a crawl even on high-speed internet. My father builds AND fixes computer when he's not at work, so I took my computer to him and had him use his virus/adware/spyware/trojan/worm custom software and he found 3 viruses matching definitions already known by AVG, 12 viruses not matching anything found in AVG's virus definitions, 200+ trojans, and 50+ spy/adware files. And Adaware is supposedly one of the best for adware?? Yeah right guess I learned my lesson with that program too.

Needless to say, he hooked me up with some of the best software I've used so far. Now I use: Avira AntiVir Personal set at a custom level, Comodo Firewall Professional set at custom level, Spybot Search & Destroy set custom, XP AntiSpy set custom, and I still use Lavasoft Ad-Aware set to work with the other programs rather than on it's own.

I use Avast! Anti-Virus. I previously used AVG Free and found it to be lacking. Mainly because it lacks a "real-time" scanner (scans the files as the download, launch, etc.). AVG also missed a trojan on a regular scan. Avast! has proven itself to be a superior product in my eyes.

ESET NOD32 has my back 24/7.... pretty much like having a 500lb gorilla in the room
