avatar problem

I lost my computer to the state last year so I can't access my old membership.
The graphic I used as my avatar was in that computer
I no longer have access to my old email address because I changed my server .
I have been able to download my avatar from this site however when I try to install it as my avatar on my new user name I get this error message:

This JPEG image has the incorrect file extension.
Any advice? since I took this from here I don't understand why I can't transfer it
