Challenge to Hippy!!!

Hi all and Hippy,
Hi HIE, I have loved your challenges as of late, here's one for you and no cheating anyone.
You have 8 coins, they all look exactly the same yet one of them is lighter than the other 7. You have a balance scale (the kind with 2 trays and they have to weigh the same for it the arrow to be in the middle or zero). You get to make 2 weight attempts with the coins and figure out which is the lighter coin. Can it be done? If so how?

take the coins......

put one of them on your scale.


take the remaining coins and select the one that feels the lightest by weight. Its ok if you forgot how much the first one felt after feeling the last 6. just go with your instinct.

now place that gem on the opposite side of the scale.... now let it go and stare out it until your eyes vibrate....:shocked:


if it raises to the heavens you can stop right there! More than likely nothing will have happen'd and after realizing you've been starin at it for like 5 min you will slowly reach out and select yet the next lightest coin.

whala! or if not you will repeat.....you now have a better chance than when you began.

YOU DID IT! or if your lucks like mine.....try yet again.

eventually you will find it and hey it takes less time for trial and error than trying to figure out these damn confusing riddles. :huh: :cool2:

Put 3 coins on each scale plate (6 coins used 2 coins put to the side), if the scales weigh even you know that 1 of the remaining coins put to the side is the light one, take the 6 coins off, put 1 coin on each scale plate and it will show the lightest.

or

Put 3 coins on each scale plate, if they are uneven in weight you know 1 of the coins in the lighter set of 3 is a light coin, take all coins off and separate the 3 coins from the light scale plate, put 1 coin from the light set of 3 coins on each scale plate and if they are even you know the remaining coin is the light one, if they are uneven you know which one is the lighest coin

Done with no cheating lol
