am i suppose to have a light on before the seedling has broken the soil?

Read my post called sprouting mutt and stony both helped me in that post. The plant wont use the light till it breaks through the soil. If you have fluoros you can have the light on just keep it about six inches away. If you choose to put it in the dark as soon as it breaks through the soil put it under light. If u have any confusion read through that post i made.

thats what made me confused, i heard elsewhere to use the light.

Besides the cost of electricity, having the light on before the seeds breaks the soil won't make any difference.
