I have an annoying pest problem... and its not insects...

ITS BIRDS!

They keep digging around the stems of my plants, 3 times I've found the smaller plant fallen over from the birds digging a massive hole around the base!

Any ideas to solve this problem would be a massive help!

my cats always kept the birds and squirals away....

It sounds like maybe the birds are eating the grubs coming out of your soil.

If you get some diatomaceous earth, put a layer of it around the base of your plants, it will dispatch any grubs you have and should cause the birds to go elsewhere.

Good luck!

could be squirrles too if you havent directly seen birds digging in there....i had that problem once. mulch and decent sized stones like gravel should help... small netting or chicken wire or a breathable covering over the soil will deffinately help. mulch will help retain water and deter gnats whaich breed through larvea which can harm roots nearby along with helping keep other small bug populations down in that general area goodluck :)
