Water by weight?

I have seen a couple of threads stating they water by weight. I was curious how you are figuring your numbers out? let the plants dry out as much as possible then weigh them? what about grow weight ect.... Any help would be great!

I don't actually weigh my pots but i do go by how light or hvy they feel...I lift them and can tell if they are dry or not...

This is more of what im asking. For watering needs not weight of finished product.
