I have been running a hydro set up for almost three yrs, and I have been using a three phase water filter. The water is city tap water that is filtered. I have been thinking about installing a water softner. My house really needs it. I am wondering if anyone out there in hydroland uses filtered water softner water. I would like to use it, if it does not affect the girls, otherwise, I will install a by-pass for the plant filter water. Any feed back would be great thanks.

I personally would not use softened water with a hydro set-up. A reputable installer will plumb hard water to the hose bibs and (generally) the kitchen sink has both. Many plumbing codes require this. Find out the specifics of what the plumber is going to do and ask about the cost of keeping hard water at the source you use for your hydro water.

Soften water sucks for growing. Many, many salts.

Soften water does extend the life of your R/O membrane if you chose to go that route of using R/O water for your grow.
