Mix potting soil with mulch to help facilitate draining?

If I am having a problem with my pots not draining well would mixing some regular mulch in with my soil help in draining and getting some oxygen around the roots? I am low on $$ right now and can't really afford vermiculite/perlite to mix in with my soil and am trying to use things I have on hand.

I agree with trillions. Perlite is definitely the best substance to use for drainage and aeration. I would invest in some. Good luck and grow it big my friend. Take care.
