2/250 w hps or 1/400w hps?

i'm looking at upgrading my lighting situation.i currently have a 250w hps and would like to either add an additional 250w hps or just go with a single 400w hps.so my question is would 2 250w lights be as effective as a single 400w light.my thinking is the 2 250w will cover more area, but will not be as intense as a 400w.

Depends on grow area...but for the most part larger canopy coverage is better IMHO. Penetration might come to mind..but remember that you can get 250W closer than 400W so its a wash in my opinion as far as penetration, but (2) 250's will get to those dark corners.

what mutt said.. room size will dictate what you need.if you can vent why not go with one 600?

i am venting, but my space is only 2' x 4' so a 600w is probaly not likely for me.

Normally I would think 2-250 watts would be better. Because you could spread them out and have the light distributed better. But, I think heat would really be a problem with 2-250's. Good luck. I think a 400 would be perfect as far as light output for your grow area, though.
