if u have a one speed squirrel cage fan can u hook up a speed control that u can buy on ebay to slow it down
 
I think you can only use those speed controllers with brush type motors...

I dont know if the squirel cage fan is like that...

Check into that first.

You will need a rheostat to do it. Radio Shack.
 
yes, you can use a rheostat to slow down the motor, however, if it was not meant to run at full capacity, it could burn out the motor faster not giving it correct operating conditions. one would have to look into the possiblity of running the ran at less than full capacity and see if it is even possible. some fans simply won't work if proper power is not supplied. it has to be a variable speed motor.
 
a speed control or rheostat will not help you with this type of fan. However, you may have a model that allows you to choose between two speeds, low and high. Check where you would make the power connections, the wires should be labeled.
