Help!!!

my friend just gave me a plant and the stem cracked its about 5 months old and ready to bud.... i need help what do i do????? i just stuck the broken part back into the soil...

Precious little info to go on, but

If the plant split in 1/2, the lower half should be fine. It will grow more branches.
The upper 1/2 however is probably a goner.
