I was reading up on how to make your own soiless soils and it said something like add 1-2 parts of perlite. What does 1-2 parts exactly mean?

I THINK it means 1-2 parts of the entire mass. now i think it should say how many parts total go into the soil. like 1 part perlite, 1 part vermicult, etc... Maybe someone can get this spot on for ya lol. Anyways good luck
