searching for cloning info

looking for a little help finding the info on cloning on the plant---forgot what peeps were calling it---they were using it to keep plant count down---what i vaguely remember and am looking for is the info in which one would grow roots on a plants branch---take the cut and have a plant---think they scratched the branch---hit it with some rooting hormone---wrapped it loosely with plastic wrap and waited---anybody point me in that direction with a link terminology and/or technique????
