soil?

my dad is a landscaper and he has numerous compost piles. i was wondering if either planting in this or simply adding it to regular planting soil would supply my babies with more crucial nutrients? it would only make sense to think so. but i would like some more input. thanx.

Some people plant in compost, and they say their plants grow wonderfully well.

But I add it to the bottom third of soil mix in my buckets.
