TL setup VS 400 W

Hello every one, iv just startet my first cycle

and i started it form seeds on soil ( only water at this point)

there about 2 weeks

my question is:

why is everybody using the TL lamp at first 3 weeks and only then moving to the 400w area, when you can start using the 400 just from higer place?

TL? you mean T5? flos....
I use flos for less heat and for new sprouts they don't like to be pounded with heat and light. So you end up with your light a pretty good distance away until they get out of the seedling stage and into veg stage.
You can start sprouts under a 400w, but seems way over kill and waste of power to do it.
I can start 4 plants under a 32w CFL...heck of a power savings for at least 2 weeks.

And when is the seedling phase over and veg starts?
