why rough leaves

my girls are in a dwc setup 3 weeks or so old and i was wonder why some leaves are rough and some are smooth.
also 1 of my girls stems has seem to break but its very limp and thin right around the bent area any info on if she will pull threw?

when one of mine broke on top I taped it back up and she grew back bent but solid..like a plant cast.
