I am preparing to move into an aprtment and would like to construct a hydroponic sustem. Would making an 8 inch high resevoir and putting styrofoam over it work? Of coarse while adding whatever nutrients would be needed. I am trying to produce decent northern lights strains.

;) Gives you a basic idea, but make the overflow shorter.

Sounds like he is talking more about a raft system than a table ebb and flow system.

Queen the problem with the setup you have invisioned is that it is useless for growing marijuana. Here's why, what are you going to do when the plants get large? How do you change your water if it is supporting your plants? Plus you will more than likely break the styrofoam when the plants get bigger. Not only that but because the raft is sitting on top of the water you roots are constantly submerged.

You could kind of use the same idea as the raft but instead build it in a tupperware tub with a few airstones and then cut holes in the lid and grow your plants there using it like a multi-plant DWC system.
