Hi Jeff, Pretty girl. If your looking for a speedy high, i take mine at all cloudy and maybe 1 amber. If your thinking some nice relaxing pot, take it more amber. The whole plant looks like it could put on some more weight too.

Hi rosebud thanks for your input i will let her go 2 more weeks and go from there. Thanks again

I believe you need more of a clear pic of the trichomes to actually be able to tell if they are clear, cloudy or amber yet.. and like rosebud said it all depends on your preference, cloudy trichomes are more of a functional high, active, whatever and more amber is couch lock stones. Heavier high.. I cut my first ever one down too early n it had both clear n cloudy trichomes but ended up being garbage.. I’m gonna let this one go until about 70-80% amber hopefully .. lol. Only my second try here so.

Wait the 2 weeks unless you start seeing a lot of amber. You will be happy you did. The speedy high you get from harvesting with mostly cloudy and clear trichomes can be a bit uncomfortable if you aren’t used to it. If in doubt, try to post some clearer pics with the eye loupe you have.

I am at 8 and a half weeks of some plants that the literature says 7-9 weeks on and I am thinking I may even go a little over 9 weeks as my plants have only an amber here and there.

kfweedman- you might wanna rethink going 70-80% amber. You will have very low levels of THC at that point and I think you will be more disappointed than you were with your first harvest. An alternative is to harvest in stages like a couple of branches a week for a few weeks to get a feel for what kind of buzz you are after. Also, it is nearly impossible to see amber with your pics being taken under you LED. Take them outside your tent and snap some pics in room lighting.

I will try for some more clearer pics. I can still see some clear trichomes.. plant needs to be watered, was just going to start using water to feed from now on. Good idea?

I feed water with blackstrap molasses and some EM1 the last couple of weeks(about a tablespoon per gallon of each). You plants look very healthy. I would go with water and molasses from now on but that is me.

What exactly does the molasses do for the plant? Just nutrients I take it? And it’s a clean burn after using that and water? Don’t have to flush with just water after that?

Supposedly if you are going organic you don’t need to flush but I think most folk go with water and molasses at the end of a grow. Molasses gives the micro herd food and there are some nutrients in it. My last grow I used EM1 for the first time and was very happy with the flavor and appearance of the smoke and buds respectively. EM1 helps chelate nutrients(makes them readily available to the plant) from what I have read and have been told(thx umbra). I think the fact that my plants lost their green(and thus the nitrogen) when I was only using water, molasses and EM1 was confirmation of that. If you are using chemical nutes, almost everyone says to flush. I did only 2 grows with chemical nutes and didn’t care for the flavor.

A few years back one of my heavy branches of Blue Dream snapped on 9/7 during a rain. That was about 2-3 weeks before I harvested the rest. The trichomes were mostly cloudy with almost no ambers. But I really couldn't tell the difference in the psychotropic effect between the early harvest and the more timed harvest. It's now 9/10 and I've got three of my four plants going gangbusters with trichomes. The fourth is Jack Herer, nine feet, but only now barely showing the white hue of the trichomes. I prefer the active buzz of the trichomes, so I've always harvested early. They also make for very potent edibles if you're into making cannabis butter. The other advantage of harvesting early is that I nearly always miss the autumn rains in northwest Oregon. Couch lock is my ordinary MO in the evenings without using cannabis. There's no need to swing the hammer harder.

I’d chop any time. Today or in the next couple. I try to chop before the lights come on. Supposedly light degrades THC so I’ve read it is best to harvest just before the lights come on(or sunrise as the case may be)...

Oh dang true eh.. I was gonna feed it one last time with water n molasses tomorrow then let it dry then harvest it.. not a good idea then? I have no idea what I’m doing so lol.. and what’s the best method for harvesting you know? :)

You could let it go a bit longer but the close up pic has a fair amount of amber. I would be using just water at this point. The way I harvest is I cut all the branches off the main stalk with some heavy pruning shears prior to my lights coming on and lay the branches gently on cookie sheets. Then I trim off all the sun leaves and as many of the sugar leaves as I can without damaging the buds. I then hang the branches with the buds still attached on a rack(I use my old SCROG netting). I usually will put them in my tent and have a small fan circulating air but not blowing on the buds and try to keep the rh around 50% and temps around 70 f. I dry like that for a few days until they start to feel drying on the outside then a put them in large brown paper grocery bags to dry them out slowly until the smaller branches snap. Then I jar them up and keep a close eye on them with hygrometers. If the rh in the jar is more than 70, back into the bags. Always handle the buds gently so as to not damage the trichomes. Once the rh in the jars is below 70 but above 65, I will leave the lids off the jars for several hours and monitor them once I put the kids back on. If they go above 70, back to the bags again if not and the rh is decreasing, I continue along that route. Once they are at 65% rh I start just burping the jars for a few minute a couple times a day(unless they go back above 65, then I leave the tops off for a while longer). You will need to gently reposition the buds in the jars so that the buds exterior isn’t constantly in contact with other moist buds. Don’t pack the jars either. 3/4 full is good. The closer I get to 60% rh the less frequently I burp. Once I am below 60, I will put a Boveda 62 pack in the jar for long term storage. I am still smoking bud from 2015 that is nice and smooth. That is a nice looking plant for someone with no idea what they are doing btw.

That sounds beautiful and all. But I don’t have the time to do all that work with kiddos and work stuff haha.. no easier way eh damn... I truly appreciate all the info man! Your awesome

I hear ya. My kids are grown so I have more time to do stuff like that. That is just how I do it to minimize the possibility of mold and to get the best flavor. Maybe someone will chime in with an easier and/or quicker way...

The short course is hang 'em until the medium sized branches snap when bent (usually 8-10 Days) then remove the buds from the stem. Into Tupperware tubs, or a garbage bag, something you can air out once a day. After another week of that jar it and forget it. If that's the only plant you have you can probably burp it plenty when you are stealing "samples"

Sounds good. Thanks for the advice. And I should obvs trim before hanging correct?

Like Olefogey said.Take the bigguns before you hang, take the little'ns when you remove the buds from the stem.
