what is the difference between topping and fimming ?

Topping, you remove the whole growth tip leaving the 2 side shoots to tak over as "top bud". Result 2 main buds.

Fimming is where you remove just the very end of the growth tip, leaving what whould have eventually been side branches all fighting it out to be "top bud". This can result in 2 to ? main shoots each bearing a good sized bud.

What is happening is that the very end of a growth shoot puts out chemicals that slow the side branches' growth. By removing the tip by fimming, all the side branches can, and do, grow simultaniously- all trying to be the "top bud".
