Distance during seedling

How close are my lights supposed to be to the seedlings? Using a 400w HPS, 4x6 area.

How close during the rest of the growth?

Also, do I do 24/0 during seedling?

For seedlings, it's best to keep an HID lamp a bit farther away than you usually would... 24 inches would probably work well with a 400w. For the rest of the grow (after about 7-10 days from sprouting soil) I would keep it between 16-18 inches from the tops of the plants.

Any light cycle with at least 18 hours of daylight will work for seedlings as well as throughout the rest of the vegetative stage. Stick with whichever one you choose though throughout veg as changes in the light cycle can induce stress.
