I was told today at a grow store that I can put a mh
bulb in my hps set up. The guy at the store said that
the only difference is that hps has an ignitor, that is
required to light the bulb. The mh doesn't have or need
this. He said that the ignitor will still go off, but it wont
hurt anything.

Has anyone heard this? I was there to buy a conversion
kit, but he told me not to worry about it, and just get
a bulb. Let me know your expereince and thoughts.
Thanks,

Thanks,

sounds great, but I dont really know, I'd have to look at the schematics. If that is the case, you could save some buck on the conversion bulbs, BRILLIANT!!!! :aok:

i've read that b-4.it said a mh bulb could be used in a hps socket.as long as the bulbs are the same wattage. im gonna be orderin (2) 600 watt ultimate hps/mh grow lights with ero hoods from htgsupply.com for 600 bucks (for both) its sounds right but i'm too paranoid to risk a fire.(if it is indeed even a fire hazzard) -peace

i work on streetlights and commercial building lights and if i dont have a mh ballast on the truck i use a same wattage hps. maintenance contracts thousands of lights. never had a problem.
