Proper way to store seeds?

I have been keeping my seeds in a wood box in my closet. I have read some where that putting them in your fridge works better. Is this true? Since i paid for the seeds i wanna keep them viable for aslong as possible.

i have heard, 'that any dark, cool place' is good to go. ... i put mine in an old zippo tin lighter box on a dark shelf. been doing it same way over 20 some odd years, and w/o problems... ...
