G'day everyone.
Welcome to our first grow journal.
We started out by ordering 30 seeds from Nirvana. We got 10 white widow, 10 jock horror and 10 papaya. From our research on strains, we figured that these three would hopefully produce different highs, and looked like fun to grow.
We germenated 24 seeds initially (2 seeds in each of twelve 6" pots). All 24 seeds sprouted, and we realised how wasteful this idea was, but you live and learn.
We selected the best 12 sprouts and began vegetation. Our vegetation set-up is as follows:
-1x 400watt HPS (with Ablite reflector)
- 6" Spectrum Exhaust fan (2850 rpm) connected to ducting cools the HPS
-6" desk fan blowing across plants to stimulate movement
-Airconditioning unit faces growing area, keeping temperatures between 75 and 84 degrees.
-digital hygrometer. RHM usually between 35%-50%
We placed all twelve 6" pots under this set up with 18/6 lighting scheme. Seeds were germenated in Yates special seedling potting mix. Seemed to work well.
After 11 days we noticed that the sprouts looked a little root-bound in the small 6" pots, and made the decision to transplant the best 2 plants of each strain into larger 15 litre plastic pots. We filled these pots with Yates premium potting mix, which has a slow release fertilizer, which should last for up to 8 months.
We also mixed in a combination of perlite and vermiculture with the soil. The pH of the soil is usually around 6.8, which could be a little high. After a few days we noticed big growth on the newly repotted plants.
We have been watering with tap water which we let stand for a minumum of 48 hours before use. Our tap water seems to have a pH of almost 8.0 so we have been using tiny amounts of phospheric acid solution in order to bring it down to about 6.7...is this a good idea? We're not sure if this is doing the plants any good. So far they are growing nicely, but any input would be appreciated!
We are currently at day 20 of veg. here a a couple of photos for you to look at. We hope you like!
