Updating the auto tent
whittled down the plants from 10 to 7 so far. May still have to kick another out but for now they are growing together fine. We are at about 30 days now and so far, everyone seems happy. Even the three plants I put outside for gifting are doing well and have enjoyed the real sun growing faster outside I think than in the tent.
I know Some have a thing against autos but I really love growing them. This is my second auto tent and I’m sure not my last. I usually have something photo going on in the other tent so I get the best of both worlds. It’s nice having an auto tent growing while waiting for the photos.

The purple lemonade are suppose to have purple flowers. I guess we will see about that.

I heard my name so I came running.......yes I have two in the dark right now. My fairy god mother told me it helps trichome enhancement.

It’s never a bad idea to look for ways to enhance your cannabis harvest. One of the best things you can do as a grower is to become better educated on how these plants are grown and what issues can impact their ability to produce cannabinoids and terpenes.
One simple way to keep your crop strong is by paying attention to the dark cycle during the growth process.
The Importance Of The Dark Cycle In Cannabis Cultivation
Cannabis is a plant that depends on at least some period of darkness to properly cultivate. It’s not until the days get shorter that cannabis plants start to flower, and thus not until the plant has a significant enough amount of darkness that those who grow marijuana can harvest their plants.

What are Trichomes?
Trichomes are a more important part of the cannabis plant than many realize. Trichomes make up that little fuzzy layer on top of the plant – that film that almost looks like frost and that usually carries a fairly strong aroma.They actually function as something of a defense shield for the plant itself in nature, but they’re also the part of the plant that does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to producing the cannabinoids and terpenes that make marijuana such a desirable product.
The 4 Stages of Trichome Development (When To Harvest Cannabis)
Trichome goes through four distinct stages of development. It’s vital that you know each of them so that you both understand how the plant works and how you can figure out when it is time to harvest.- Stage One: Empty. Stage one of trichome development is the empty stage. You’ll have a problem seeing anything because your plant’s trichomes are essentially empty at this point, without the various substances that make cannabis ‘work’. If you can’t see anything yet, you’ll need to be patient and take the time to let your plants keep growing.
- Stage Two: Translucent. If your plant looks like it’s covered with a fine layer of dew or frost, you’re looking at a plant that is in the second stage of trichome development. The trichomes are still ‘filling up’ at this stage, so you haven’t quite reached the level of potency that makes harvesting a good idea. In fact, harvesting at this juncture can actually cause some very serious problems with your yield.
- Stage Three: Cloudy. The cloudy trichomes are a sign that your plant has reached its peak THC production levels. This doesn’t necessarily mean that marijuana harvested at this juncture is going to be the strongest marijuana out there, but it does mean that your plant is definitely as strong as it is going to get. Most people recommend harvesting at the point when about half the trichome on the plant has hit the cloudy stage.
- Stage Four: Amber. If your plant’s trichomes have hit the amber level, congratulations – you’re looking at the peak level of power, especially in indica. Counterintuitively, though, seeing the amber trichome means that the THC level in the harvest is actually going to be lower than when you were looking at the previous stage. Still, this is an ideal time to harvest for most and one that’s generally going to preserve the most significant effects for growers.
How to See Trichomes on Buds
Unfortunately, you are going to be able to see the trichomes with your naked eye. It makes a lot of sense to invest in a microscope or loupe to see these important growths, especially if you’re concerned about the strength of the plants that you’ll eventually harvest.So, how long should I keep my plant in the dark before harvest?
There’s a lot of debate on this one, but most do agree that cannabis needs to be kept in the dark for a significant amount of time before harvest. If you see that your trichomes are starting to turn, you’ll want a cycle of between twenty-four and forty-eight hours to really maximize the potency of the plant that you are growing.
The vast majority of growers do tend to lean towards the longer time frame being a better choice, though those who are less concerned with potency might benefit from choosing the shorter time period.

I’m so happy to start my autos I got 4 seeds germinating now. I’m used to waiting all season to see buds, not in thirty days!!
This is only my second time growing them. They are fun to grow and waiting for them is a lot easier than my photos. It also helps me be more patient with my photos and at this time keeping me occupied so I don’t put my outside plants out to early this year

Peeking in on the auto tent. The flowers are really coming along and I’m digging the autos more and more. No problem in this grow so far except I’ve had to add a bit more cal mag lately. Have done very little defoliating so far just a big fan leaf here and there. I have three strains in this tent and even the same seeds look different as they grow not appearing to be related.

the first two are both Acapulco Gold. The first plant has skinny leaves and yellowish buds the second has fat leaves with thicker white buds.
the next two are both Sour Diesel.
The next two are called purple lemonade. The first one is turning beautiful purple (as is the one I kicked outside a couple weeks ago). The other I really am seeing no purple well maybe a little purple but the buds are super sticky and smelly already. I’ve got a good feeling about this one…

Beautiful, and we know the photos are not doing her justice... try this little trick. Find something to block the light. Piece of cardboard off a box works great because it's so light.. hold it directly above the plant to block the spectrum it's throwing and you'll be surprised..

Thanks Carty. yes the pictures look much nicer when I remove them from the tent and take a pic in a darker room with my flash. Maybe I’ll try that and submit one in the BOTM. The autos I have grown so far have not been disappointing at all. Most have had beautiful buds and not many problems at all with their grow (I’m knocking on wood now)

That’s the purple lemonade and believe it or not it actually smells lemonish. I put one of those outside, the flowers are smaller but almost black they are so purple
