To Cut or Not to Cut

I have a 7wk. old plant which has some little buds growing on it & I'd like to know if I can cut a bud or two off to try it out and if so where should I cut it from or does it matter? This is the first plant I've ever grown and know nothing about growing them so please HELP!!! Thank You!!!

leave the plant till its completely mature other wise you are givng up taste, potency, and maybe even yield
