here's a little experiment I'm trying, I grow in pro mix but am interested in "hydro" growing, so I thought I'd try this little test. what i used:
2 empty ice cream containers (one with drainage holes)
one stunted clone (was a runt i was gonna ditch)
strips of a clean white cotton shirt
filled one pail with crushed clay tile right out of my driveway (washed well)

I hung the strips of cotton from the top pail into the bottom pail, filled the pail with the tile and the clone and I manually flood the plant in the morning and in the evening, and I guess the strips wick enough nute solution up to plant. I use the same solution I use for my other plants, gen. hyd. flora nova one part bloom mixed with rain water. it was literally two little leaves 9 or 10 days ago. I put it right into 12/12 once i put it in the tile

sounds great, i love experiments. the sharp edges of the tile are OK for roots?

I really never thought about it, I guess they probably are a little sharp, but it's growing ok, we'll see how it goes, it's not causing an problem having her around so she can stay
